Dad could no longer get to the bathroom fast enough and had to start wearing diapers today.

Dad could hold a pen, but he could not write down coherent thoughts.

Dad could briefly follow directions and do dictation, writing down what mom and I tell him to write. However, he could not write down his own thoughts, only random letters and symbols.

It's dad's 76th birthday toady. He could still hold a spoon and feed himself if we hand him food.

Aileen takes dad to the jungle gym. Dad did not know how to use the equipment. He was mostly observing others.

When it it's raining or too sunny outside, Aileen would help dad get on the treadmill to get his daily walk of 30 minutes.

Dad has trouble exercising his hands and arms and doesn't enjoy this type of exercise.

Dad went outside to get some fresh air, and he fell. He couldn't get up on his own. We didn't know how long he had been sitting there because he couldn't communicate.

It was very difficult for dad to walk in the sand at the beach. Mom and Aileen had to pull him to help him.

Dad was sitting outside for some sun and fresh air. Moments later when left alone, to Aileen's surprise, he was able to stand up on his own, holding the umbrella so the wind couldn't blow it away. He was not able to communicate how he did it and could only nod to Aileen's questions.

Aileen took dad to the library and we spent a few hours there. (A few days later, dad was hospitalized for the first time because he lost his ability to swallow.)
