Dad waiting for the ambulance to arrive. He hadn't eaten anything the night before and nothing the next morning. He had lost his ability to speak and swallow and was hospitalized for the first time in the U.S.

Three and a half months later here, dad is walking with his G-tube on. Aileen got dad a rollator walker so he could continue to go for walks every day. He could no longer speak or pronounce words but could express emotions (ex: frowning or smiling, but he was not able to show his teeth or open his mouth on command).

Dad has had several months of daily training by Aileen on how to walk without his wheelchair. Here mom is helping dad walk upstairs using the handrail.

Dad goes for 30-minute morning walks with Aileen's assistance and can still hold tissue paper to wipe his mouth from frequent drooling. He had the G-tube placement 3 months ago and now dealing with saliva running down his chin all the time.

Dad does daily walks with Aileen for 18 months before he gradually couldn't go for walks outside anymore. Something had happened that weakened his right leg.

Aileen drove dad to see his doctor for the last time. The doctor tells dad that he could no longer be of help, saying dementia only gets worse. Dad was still nonverbal with the G-tube on and needed a walker and Aileen's assistance to enter and leave the doctor's office.

Dad could no longer walk outside in the neighborhood but still managed to get daily exercises in the living room with Aileen's assistance. His legs were getting weaker, but we didn't know why.
